Mulberry Academy of Music
The Mulberry Academy of Music, based at Mulberry School for Girls, aims to tackle longstanding inequalities in music education by ensuring every child regardless of background can develop a lifelong love of music. With many state schools no longer offering GCSE Music and financial barriers preventing access to instruments and lessons, the Academy provides a transformational, fully integrated music programme for students aged 4–18.
Mulberry School for Girls has a strong track record of delivering high-quality, ambitious music projects, from a Community Opera exploring migration to performances at St Paul’s Cathedral and the Royal Albert Hall. Under the leadership of the new Director of Music, GCSE Music results have reached their highest level and students continue to thrive through Trust-wide musical opportunities. The Academy builds on this foundation to create a truly inclusive and excellent musical community.
Its programme spans four pathways: instrumental, vocal, advanced progression, and early-years foundations, supported by leadership initiatives that empower older students to mentor their peers and primary pupils. Through the Mulberry Big Band, Mulberry Sings, Rising Stars, and Musical Foundations programmes, every child can learn, perform, and grow.
The Academy’s impact is far-reaching: students gain deep musical knowledge, strengthened wellbeing, leadership skills, cultural awareness, and access to professional musical pathways within a vibrant, supportive hub.
