Rightful Place Conference

On Wednesday 30th April the annual Mulberry Arts Rightful Place conference took place which was curated, planed, and run by MPAA students. This year’s theme, chosen by the students was Equity, Diversity and Inclusion: Breaking Barriers & Widening Access in Production Arts. The conference was attended by over 150 student delegates from Years 7 to 12 representing seven schools. The day started with two keynote presentations delivered by Jenny Sealey OBE (Artistic Director, Graeae Theatre Company) and Josette Bushell-Mingo OBE (Principal, The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama), followed by a panel discussion with Mark Dakin, Leeluu Dallas King, Khadija Raza, Sylvia Darkwa-Ohemeng, Alison Pottinger and Mig Burgess Walsh. The speakers spoke powerfully about their experiences in the industry and the changes they would like to see to support new talent to take up their rightful place in offstage roles. In the afternoon the students attended workshops enabling them to find out more about the incredible career opportunities that are available in the sector and the pioneering work of global organisations like TAIT.

“Watching you [students] work together as a team to manage today’s events was incredibly impressive, and I hope you all take pride in the way you represented your schools so beautifully.”
